Please Don't Regret the Person Who Almost Broke You

We all get stuck. Stuck in life, stuck in our habits, and especially, especially, stuck in love. Things don’t always work out the way we want them to. Love is scary. The person who we fall in love with has the full power to destroy us, and sometimes they do.

We fall in love without a parachute. If we crash, we don’t have any safety net. No protection. We feel it with every fiber of our being. We break every bone.

But being broken doesn’t mean you’re weak. On the contrary, only strong people are able to give away their heart, exposing their soul, risking being destroyed. The strongest people have been broken, lost, confused. The most fascinating souls have been so scared and bruised, only to rise up that much stronger, more aware. Knowing exactly who they are and what they want. Knowing their strength and knowing they can do anything. Knowing they deserve better.

Maybe you’ve gone back to the person who you loved more than anything. Maybe they broke your heart again. Maybe they betrayed you, shattered your heart into a million pieces. Don’t let it crush your spirit. Let it teach you.

Let it teach you about what you don’t want. Because how can you know what you want without experiencing what you don’t

It’s not your weaknesses that make you vulnerable, it’s your virtues. And one day someone is going to come along and appreciate every single part of you. They won’t take advantage of your kindness. They won’t use you to feel good about themselves. They’ll be thinking about you. They will be listening to you. They will want to know how you got every scar. They will want to know about you past and will cherish every time you open up to them.

They will care so deeply about you, without ever wanting to possess you. They will trust you to make the right decisions, but hug you so tightly anytime you fall. They will make your whole body laugh, they will look into your eyes and love you with their entire soul. They will tease you like a best friend. They will never do anything that they know will hurt you. The will fight for you, make an effort for you, always.

Never lose your courage to take risks. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable again, just take your time. When you’re stuck and scared and don’t know what to do next, don’t ever stop believing in yourself. You did what you did for a reason. Don’t ever regret anyone who you once loved. They have shaped you into the the person that you are today. They have taught you more than a happily ever after ever could. All your experiences are preparing you for your next love, your real love.

When you’re stuck in love, and don’t know what to do next, just take a deep breath and know that everything will be okay. You’re here for a reason. Your heart is still beating. You're alive. And one day, you will meet someone who will make you understand why it never worked out with the last one. You are meant for something greater.
